Severe storms move through metro area, more possible on Friday

Posted: Updated:

Strong storms popped up across the metro Atlanta area on Thursday, and more could be on the way Friday.

Storms that had been expected earlier in the day split and went around north Georgia, but some areas still saw some severe thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night.

Some more storms popped up after 3 p.m., according to FOX 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in some counties as the system moved south.

Around 8:30 p.m. the system once again began to get active and more warnings were issued in the metro area.

FOX 5 Live VIPIR indicated some hail in southern parts of Jasper County and western parts of Upson County. Some areas saw downed trees.

Friday will once again bring the chance of more strong storms, Ken said. A new weather system is moving southeast  from the Midwest  could bring storms capable of producing gusty winds, lightning and hail.
