7-Eleven kiosks store digital copies of your keys

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Locked out? Forget about calling the 24-hour locksmith. KeyMe kiosks, located in some 7-Eleven stores, will print you a new copy in seconds.

For the last 21 years, Alan Reisner has cut keys and provided a 24-hour lockout service from his Upper East Side shop.

"Every day is different," he says. "Some days I don't make any. Some days I make dozens."

Now for the first time in 21 years the rise of a machine across the street threatens to terminate some of his business.

"From the consumer's perspective, unfortunately I think it's a pretty decent idea," Alan says.

Greg Marsh, 28, who went to Columbia b-school, gave birth to the KeyMe kiosks, which store a digital blueprint of your key. For $20 the kiosk will print a copy of your key after scanning your thumbprint.

But he says he couldn't have done it without the forgetful habits of the woman he loves. He says his now-fiancé gets locked out constantly, always paying $150 for locksmith. He says he wanted to come up with something better."

Marsh is gambling Manhattan's stacked with key-holders like the woman he plans to marry.

Investors seem to think that's a safe bet. They've pitched in $2.3 million to Marsh's cause.

Absentminded tenants and homeowners can find KeyMe in three 7-Eleven stores in Manhattan for now.

Deep beneath the hustle and bustle of Tribeca lies a modern-day oasis brimming with old world charm: Aire Ancient Baths, my new favorite city escape. The breathtaking spa is illuminated by hundreds of candles and smells of invigorating eucalyptus. For around $80 you can bathe in the tranquil blue pools for 90 minutes and find the temperature that's right for you.

From coffee shops in Brooklyn to restaurants in Manhattan, we find speakeasies standing out by blending in. When people in Bushwick want a green machine juice blend they visit Leticia Castillo's Owl Juice Pub. But first they must find the owl. "We been doing fine without a sign," Castillo says.
