Broken crate at JFK exposes $600 million in diamonds

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Port Authority Police say diamonds worth more than half a million dollars were left out in the open at the warehouse where thieves stole more than $1.2 million in cash last week.

The NY Post says police found a damaged cargo container in the Swiss Airlines warehouse at JFK Thursday afternoon. The crates arrived on Swiss airlines flights from Zurich.

The report says although it was still sealed, the container had a gap of several inches on the bottom and diamonds were visible inside.

The contents included up to $600 million worth of diamonds that were destined for jewelers in New York City and other locations.

Last week, police say thieves used a forklift to break through a crate and stole $1.2 million in cash from the same warehouse.

That cash robbery went unnoticed for two days when the crates were opened at a Federal Reserve Center in East Rutherford, NJ.

The Post says that heist was being investigated as an inside job and the FBI planned to give polygraph tests to airport workers who had access to Building 22.

LL Cool J stays true to hip hop roots

EXCLUSIVE -- LL Cool J grew and evolved from a hip hop artist out of Hollis, Queens, to a Hollywood TV and movie star. But he always stayed true to hip hop culture. We'd see him backstage at concerts just hanging out with us, so when I heard he was back in New York for the summer I had to find out why. I tracked him down to a Midtown Manhattan recording studio for this exclusive interview.

When he was 31, Patrick Quinn, of Queens, received the life-changing news: he has ALS. It all started after a softball game in 2011. After two years of countless medical tests, the diagnosis was final. Since then, Quinn has watched his body change. His arms are much thinner. His biceps and triceps have atrophied. His hands have lost all muscle.
