Southlanders Try to Beat the Heat

Los Angeles, CA -

Despite the temperatures that quickly surpassed the triple digit mark – hundreds showed up at the safe summer tip off festival at USC and tried their best to stay cool any way possible.

"Drink as much water as possible," said one woman at the festival.

Many headed indoors to enjoy LAPD vs. LAFD game and the air conditioning.  But staying cool wasn't easy, considering this is one of the worst heat waves on record.

That's why in la county agencies worked together to spread word about staying cool and safe while saving energy.

"So if you're going to be using your air conditioning you should be thinking about kicking it up just a couple of degrees so its comfortable inside the home.  But you don't need it, nobody needs it at 65," said Capt. John Eagan, LAPD.

The best way to cool off, while saving energy, is of course the beach.  You can see people flocked to Venice where it's a good 15 to 20 degrees cooler compared to the scorching temps inland.  Spending the day at the beach was a breeze.

"June gloom status, it's the end of June, so i mean it was overcast now it's sunny. Beautiful babe on one side and beach on the other and I'm good today," said Bret.  And just like Bret hundreds of others found much needed relief going for a dip and catching waves.
