School is in with fishing pro Ken Sturdivant

Posted: Updated:

Every weekend, Lake Lanier is packed with casters. Men and women hoping to reel in that one big catch.

Many of them, perhaps like yourself, are self-taught fishermen and women. But, one expert says with only a little help – you can up your game – and, fill your cooler.

In fact, Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken waded in for his first lesson from one of the masters at Lake Lanier.

Ken Sturdivant, of Southern Fishing, "W-w-w-dot-southern-fishing-dot-com! You'll see that on the screen in a minute!"

Sturdivant is one heck of a salesman. But, more than that – he's a true blue Georgia fisherman.

"I started fishing when I was 4.  And I'll be 19 next month," he said.

Mastering his cast over 60 years, Sturdivant's reeled in plenty of fish… and, knowledge. That's why today he's a teacher and Lake Lanier is his classroom.

"Over the last 40, 50 years, I was guiding. I just didn't realize it," he said. "I would take people fishing, teach 'em how to use a rod and a reel, catch fish and stuff like that...but nobody's teaching anyone how to fish anymore."

So, Sturdivant is doing it. Enter: Mr. Sturdivant's Southern Fishing Schools. Here, he lures in customers who hope to lure in that one big catch.

He's keen to show students which rods, hooks and bait are the best to use to reel in the whoppers he's caught in his day.

And, he's open to sharing a key piece of wisdom that was shared with him not so long ago: "Know the lake that you're fishing in."

Considering he's been skimming these waters for awhile, he knows what he's talking about.

"Don't tell anyone this, but I started fishing this lake in 1956," he said.

Listen up and you'll soon find that this master's advice is definitely something you don't throw back.

Oh, that awful feeling when you think your credit or debit card is safely tucked into your wallet, but it's still shopping. Somebody, somewhere has got your card number and is using it. What if you could turn off that card?
