'Prison' fire burns in Santa Catalinas near Tucson

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A lightning-caused fire has charred 240 acres on Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains just north of Tucson.
The Prison fire was reported Sunday evening by the lookout atop Mount Lemmon at a time when radar recorded more than 600 lightning strikes across the Coronado National Forest.
On Monday, 60 firefighters along with two water tenders and an engine were battling the blaze with some afternoon rain helping in the containment effort.
Authorities say no structures are currently threatened.

The fire started near the site of a World War II prisoner of war camp.
