Quinn says July 9 pension deadline stands

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

A spokeswoman for Gov. Pat Quinn says his July 9 deadline for a legislative committee to come up with a fix for Illinois' pension crisis stands.

Spokeswoman Brooke Anderson says lawmakers have had plenty of time to reach a deal and they should stop making excuses.

Sen. Kwame Raoul is chairman of the 10-member committee tasked with addressing the $97 billion pension shortfall.

Raoul said Wednesday the committee won't meet Quinn's deadline because it will take two weeks to estimate costs savings for new proposals the panel is considering.

Raoul also says it's "schizophrenic" for Quinn to insist on the deadline when his office just submitted new proposals to the committee on Tuesday.

Anderson says those requests weren't new and could have been analyzed weeks ago.
