Macy’s Fireworks Show over the Hudson dazzles crowds

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Macy's Fireworks Spectacular just concluded with millions of spectators on hand to witness it for themselves with 44,000 effects and 1,600 shells exploding a minute.

Welcome to the annual Macy's Fireworks celebration.

This year the music was the big draw. It was choreographed by Grammy winning artist Usher.

"These songs should conjure an emotion and if it's a moment to look back at what was happening when Hendrix played the record and what was going on then and how we developed in this day and time – where we've come in terms of the cultural music that we adopt and the different ideas of music," said Usher.

From Jimi Hendrix fiery rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, to Usher's own songs, some country -- even electronica.

It was definitely different for the global superstar.

"I'm accustomed to working with bodies and movement and light but here, it's basically a trigger and it has to 100 percent work0 with the sound. And I kind of want people to take notice of that," said Usher. "It's just a different way of me articulating myself. You've seen what I've done in two hours, now you get a chance to see what I do in 25 minutes."

And for just those 25 minutes, an estimated 3 million people turned out to watch.

It's a couple hours before the show and the crowd on the corner of 12th Avenue and 24th Street has increased since 5:00 p.m.

The NYPD had the area locked down and Fox 5 didn't hear of any problems, so once again, a big success and a lot of people were very happy.

Princeton University has agreed to contribute more than $24 million over the next seven years to the town of Princeton. The deal was announced Thursday and is set for consideration by the town government's approval on Monday. The university and town officials frame it was as a way to resolve an age-old issue in college towns where much of the land is university-owned and thus tax-exempt.
