Reward for NYPD cop's shooter

Posted: Updated:

A $10,000 cash reward is being offered by the citizens organization COP SHOT for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who shot an NYPD officer in the leg.

NYPD chief spokesman Paul Browne says Officer Jamil Sarwar was in the Cypress Hills housing development in the East New York section of Brooklyn shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday when he was wounded in the right leg.

The officer was on foot patrol at the time of the incident.

Sarwar remained in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital on Friday.

"We are fortunate that we have not had a fatal shooting since Detective Peter Figoski was killed in December 2011 in the same East New York neighborhood," said Bloomberg.

Browne says the shot appears to have originated from one of the buildings in the development, possibly from a rooftop.

He says it's unclear if the officer was targeted or if the shot was random.

Police were questioning to people in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact COP SHOT at it's 24-hour hotline, 1-800-COP-SHOT.

The NYPD is investigating a major security breach at the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the most highly secured landmarks in New York City. Two white flags — international symbols of surrender — fluttered from poles on the stone supports that hold cables above the bridge connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. The flags had a faint appearance of the stars and stripes. The American flags that are normally up at the bridge appeared to have been removed.
