The state transportation department will lower the speed limit on a stretch of Interstate 4 in Volusia County after a recent increase in crashes.
The stretch is in a construction zone between State Road 44 and U.S. 92, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers say they've investigated 47 crashes this area in both directions of I-4 in the past couple of months. None were fatal.
With lane shifts because of construction, drivers are going too fast through the area, especially during the recent rains, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said.
The speed limit will be reduced from 70 to 60 mph.
