ATLANTA -

A 58-year-old woman faces charges for her role in a deadly crash on the Downtown Connector this past Saturday, FOX 5 Atlanta has learned.

Atlanta police say about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a car driven by Sandra Cottles, 58, rear-ended the right rear fender of another car traveling in the northbound HOV lane, near the I-85 HOV lane and near 17th Street. The rear-ended car spun out of control, flipped over and ejected two people.

The crash shut down that section of the Downtown Connector for several hours.

The driver of that vehicle died at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner has confirmed the driver's identity, but not released it pending notification of next of kin.

The remaining passengers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where most were listed in stable condition.

Cottles was not injured in the crash, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Atlanta police charged her with 2nd-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to maintain lane.
