Atlanta officers to start patrolling local schools full time.

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Atlanta police have a new plan to beef up security in schools when classes begin next month.

Fifty-five officers will be assigned to patrol every high school and middle school in the system full-time. This means officers will no longer be responsible for several schools at a time.

Depending on enrollment and security needs, each Atlanta high school will have two to four officers assigned.

Atlanta police will also be available to assist at elementary schools when needed.
