Volunteering your way to a new job

Posted: Updated:

Beth Grossman of Angott Search Group of Rochester volunteers her time as a recruiter to tell Fox 2's Murray Feldman how important volunteering is to a person's job search.

A recent study by the U. S. Census Bureau says volunteering helps job seekers learn new skills and help the candidate to network.

As a volunteer you can place yourself in front of people who may hire you.  And here's the deal, they see you in a positive light.

It's always worked this way: Do good for others and good things happen to you.

The report highlights three key findings:

    1. Volunteers are 27% more likely to find employment than non-volunteers.

    2. Volunteers without a high school diploma have a 51% better chance at finding a job.

    3. Volunteers living in rural areas are 55% more likely to find a job than non-volunteers.
