New Ga. Power service keeps customers informed about outages

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The severe storms from last month left many Georgia Power customers without power for several hours. The power company has launched a new service to let you see what's being done to get your lights back on.

From now on, you won't have to wonder if Georgia Power is close to fixing your lights. Any still-working smartphone or laptop can now access the Storm Center outage map where you type in your specific neighborhood and see where and how the work is being done.

Georgia Power Senior Engineer John Zumbado says their online outage map is easy to navigate and only about 10 minutes behind real time.

The website is up and running for all 2.4 million customers. There is also an instructional video.
