Hillsborough County deputies say they have the man they're looking for in connection with the brutal killing of a 7-Eleven store clerk in Riverview.
Lawrence Robert Bongiovanni, 20, was captured on foot in Charlotte County and has been booked on first-degree murder charges, Hillsborough deputies said. Investigators say he is the one who stabbed the clerk to death.
Russell Beasley, 25, and Brandan Garrett Green, 23, were detained along Fruitville Road in Sarasota. Investigators say they were driving Bongiovanni's car.
The two were detained and questioned for their involvement. They have not been formally charged with anything, officials said Thursday morning, and are being treated as witnesses.
The violent attack happened just before 1:30 a.m. at the Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road location.
Deputies say Kenneth Redding, 54, was stabbed multiple times and left for dead. He was rushed to the hospital but died from those injuries.
Hillsborough Sheriff David Gee said the killing was brutal and that he hasn't seen many crimes like this.
"From 35 years of experience, it is too graphic to release to you," Gee said. "This was a very brutal, premeditated attack."
Gee said Bongiovanni hid in the store until the clerk thought he was alone, and then attacked.
He stole lottery tickets, which they have cashed in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties, Gee said.
Bongiovanni appeared in court Thursday in Charlotte County. He will then make a first appearance for a separate crime in Seminole before coming back to Hillsborough County.
