Inkster residents speak out over city's rising crime

Posted: Updated:

The small, six-square mile city of Inkster counts twelve murders for this year already. Twelve was the homicide number for all of last year.

The latest four murders occurred within three days. Inkster Police say three of those four murders are drug related, causing outrage with some neighbors.

"We have to stand up as a community, as people of God, not to sit there are say we are going to allow this craziness to be in our neighborhoods or homes," says Bishop Walter Starghilll at a town hall meeting Wednesday night.

At that meeting, police chief Hilton Napoleon says everyone in the city is at risk. "What I'm concerned about is the innocent people that are here getting caught in the mess, and it's very important that we do something about this."

After layoffs, the police department is down to only 25 full-time officers.
