Big local help to upgrade Atlanta's oldest fire station

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

An incredible update to a story the Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken brought you in June. It's about a heart-warming local effort to restore Atlanta's oldest operating fire station to its former glory.

The effort just received a nice boost!

Fire Station 19's been serving the Virginia-Highlands community since the 1920's. But, firefighters say the station is in need of some upgrades.

Nearby restaurants Highland Tap and Fontaine's Oyster House held a fundraiser on June 25, where they'd donate 25 percent of that day's sales to the fire station.

This week, the owners prepared a check for nearly $3,000 for Station 19's renovations. They said the idea of a fundraiser was as an easy decision to help their neighbor.
