Photographer captures Detroit's story through city's shoe shiners

DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -

Great photographs can tell a story. One local photographer is determined to tell the story of a group of Detroiters who are part of the city's past and are determined to be part of its future.

Watch Alexis Wiley's Redefining Detroit video report above.

It's an industry that has been in Detroit for nearly 100 years. Detroit shoe shiners have seen Detroit's rise and fall, and they're still here, just under the radar.

You will find them scattered around downtown, in buildings like the Guardian and Detroit's Eastern Market. Taking a pair of shoes from worn out, to better than ever. Work, you might say, parallels what's happening in the city itself.

Photographer Kenny Corbin decided to document Detroit's shoe shiners, capturing everything from their customers to their families.
