'Indy' Has Second Surgery After Fireworks Strapped to Body

Posted: Updated:

Dr. Daniel Slaton posted on Indy's Facebook thread this morning:

"Second surgery finished. Everything went well, but the wounds in his left thigh are deeper than anticipated. Most likely will need a third procedure for skin grafting. We will assess further early next week to allow the infection to get under control and the healing process to start. He also got a plasma transfusion to help with his proteins and allow his body to heal. He is resting comfortably now and will continue to get bandage changes daily. Thanks for all the support."

"Indy" a 3-year-old Straffordshire suffered severe burns and puncture injuries to much of his body after being discovered near death in Van Nuys the day after the 4th of July.

A reward is now being offered in a shocking case of animal abuse that's getting a lot of attention on Youtube.

Indy is a 3-year-old Staffordshire and often gets confused as a Pit Bull. He was brought into the L-A East Valley Animal shelter on July 5th with bad burns on his leg, side and paws.

The Vet is convinced the burns came from fireworks being strapped to his body and lit up.

Indy is under the care of an organization called "START RESCUE" in Valley Village.  Volunteers say the dog probably would have been euthanized and arranged for initial surgery to remove dead tissue on Wednesday.

Indy will have another surgery on Friday after being scene by a burn specialist to close up his wounds.  He will have to remain in the animal hospital for several weeks. He will be rescued by START Transport Rescue before being adopted out.  START is going to need donations to help cover his vet care and rescue costs.

An anonymous donor has put up the $1000 reward to figure out who did this.  Those with information or wishing to donate to help pay Indy's medical bills can contact the group at www.startrescue.org
