David Does It: Kings Landing river run

APOPKA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A river canoe trip considered by some to be the best in the state is here in Central Florida.

Kings Landing in Apopka offers a "River Run Adventure" canoe or kayak trip that takes paddlers 8.5 miles downstream on the Wekiva River.

Kings Landing rents the canoes and kayaks. Paddlers launch from the landing, lightly row about 4 hours and are picked up by a shuttle at Wekiva Island.

"You're going with the flow of the water, so it kind of helps you out," landing manager Daniel Smith said. "Yes, there are some sharp turns, but that's all part of it."

On the river run, paddlers can see alligators, and many turtles and birds. Bears and otters occasionally have been spotted.

Guests are encouraged to launch by 11 a.m. and bring lunch. Rentals are $30 for a two-seater canoe, $40 for a three-seater, and includes a return ride on the shuttle.
