TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Detectives in Tampa say they used social media to connect a 19-year-old with the shooting death of a St. Petersburg man Saturday morning.

John Fitzgerald Chatman Jr. of Clearwater faces second-degree murder charges for allegedly killing Chirstian Maffu, police said.

Police say Chatman shot Maffu in a parking lot at 1600 East 5th Avenue a little after 3 a.m. According to detectives, Chatman and a group of friends heard some sort of argument, and began taunting Maffu and his friends.

A fight broke out, and police say Chatman pulled a gun.

Detectives believe Maffu jumped in front of two friends and punched Chatman. One of those two was pistol-whipped, but police say Maffu was the only one shot.

He was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died.

Witness accounts matched up with several social media accounts, police said, and they were able to identify Chatman.

A U.S. Marshals team made the arrest.
