'Fruitvale Station' confronts race, injustice in Gant death

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Long before the controversy of Trayvon Martin swept America, there was Oscar Gant. The unarmed 22-year-old was shot and killed by a San Francisco Bay Area transit officer in 2009.

The killing and ensuing trial resulted in protests and a nationwide outcry for justice.

"Fruitvale Station," based on Gant's death, is the first feature-length film for young writer and director Ryan Coogler. He sat down with Good Day Atlanta's Karen Graham Wednesday to talk about the film's impact, success and a little something called Oscar.
