Nantucket Man Catches Shark While Bluefishing

Posted: Updated:

Imagine catching a shark and wrangling it to shore!

That's what one Nantucket man did while he was trying to catch bluefish on a beach in Sconset.

Elliot Sudal's the man, and he says that catching a shark in Massachusetts is the last thing he expected to do. After the shark bit his fishing line, Sudal spent more than 45 minutes fighting and tiring out the shark with his line. Eventually he managed to "land" the shark by grabbing the shark by the tail and pulling it to shore. The whole sequence was caught on camera.

Sudal is originally from Florida, where he used to shark fish. He says thrill of it is "catching something bigger than you."

This shark he caught is called a sand shark. They are usually non-aggressive if left alone. After catching the shark and taking pictures, Sudal released the shark back into the water and let it swim away.
