Mom, 3 Sons Killed Crossing Boulevard; 1 More Son Hurt

PHILADELPHIA -

A family tragedy in a Philadelphia neighborhood leaves a mother and three of her sons dead. Her remaining son is in the hospital after a driver struck them while they were crossing the street.

Samara Selina Banks, 28, and her 23-month old son were pronounced on the scene.  Her other son, Saamir Williams, 7-months old, was pronounced at Einstein Hospital.  Another son who was  4-years old was transported to St. Chris and was pronounced early this morning.   Her forth son, a 5-year old, remains at Einstein with bumps and bruises.

SkyFOX was over the scene Tuesday along the 200 block of the Roosevelt Boulevard in Feltonville.

Police say that a 2012 Audi was traveling Southbound on Roosevelt Boulevard from Front Street.   A witness observed that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and was possibly drag racing.   That is when the Audi allegedly lost control and slammed into a 27-year-old woman pushing a stroller and her four sons.

A 22-year-old man was behind the wheel. Police said he was taken for a blood test.

"There is a crosswalk where they were crossing. It appears that that's where the mother and all four of her children were crossing when struck by the vehicle," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

"Due to the fact that we have three fatalities, Accident Investigation District personnel are on location, processing the scene," Small said. "We're talking to several persons who witnessed this accident -- some who were on foot, some who were in other vehicles when the accident occurred. We're getting some information that there may have been drag racing. That's something that (AID) is going to determine."

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this video report from the scene.
