KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A Central Florida middle-school band director was arrested Tuesday on child-sex charges after deputies say they found him in a car with a former student.
Dietrich Leonardo Vasquez, who turns 35 on Thursday, of Winter Garden identified himself to Osceola County Sheriff's deputies as the band director at Horizon Middle School in Kissimmee, they said.
On Tuesday night, deputies responded to an anonymous complaint about a suspicious vehicle in the Trafalgar Village subdivision in Kissimmee. There, they found Vasquez and a 17-year-old male victim in the back seat, apparently involved in a sex act, they said.
Vasquez, who cooperated with authorities, told them he met the teen while he was his former music student at Horizon. He picked up the boy at his home and bought alcohol for him, deputies said.
Because school is out for the summer, Osceola Schools say Vasquez won't be reassigned until teachers report to school. When they do, he will be reassigned to a position in which he won't have contact with students until his case is resolved.
Vasquez was charged with unlawful sexual activity with certain minors, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and public indecent exposure and booked into the Osceola County Jail.
