DETROIT (WJBK) -

A wounded pit bull is now recovering with dog rescue group Detroit Bully Corps. A Detroit homeowner called DBC after discovering a dog in their yard covered in blood and unresponsive.

When DBC arrived at the home on Lodge Drive near East Jefferson Avenue, they discovered the dog had been shot in the shoulder. The injured animal was rushed to Emergency Veterinarian Hospital of Ann Arbor.

Despite the gunshot wound, the dog-- now nicknamed Tarantino-- is in stable condition. "It appears this canine is someone's pet that somehow got away from his owner," says Bill Bellottie, Detroit Bully Corps Co-Founder and Director of Operations. "He does not look like he has been on the streets for very long. He has good muscle tone and a nice coat."

DBC is now hoping to track down the dog's owner. The American Pit Bull Terrier weighs 55-65 pounds, has a sable brown coat with a white chest and white feet. He also has flop ears and is not neutered. The dog was wearing a black collar but did not have tags or a microchip.

If you believe Tarantino is your missing pet, call Detroit Bully Corps at 734-253-2053 or detroitbullycorps@gmail.com. You will be asked to provide proof of ownership, including medical records and photos.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting contact the Detroit Police Department's Northeast Precinct at 313-596-1100.

If no one comes forward during the mandatory holding period for strays, the dog will be placed into the DBC's rehabilitation program until he is ready to be put up for adoption. Donations toward his care can be made online at dbcdogs.org or mailed to Detroit Bully Corps, 7555 Jackson Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
