96-Year-Old Store Owner Deters Robber, Surveillance Shows

A would-be-robber thought it was going to be an easy task to steal money from a 96-year-old woman. But little did he know, the elderly woman was not going to let him get away without a fight.

Meet Margaretta Wolf. She owns a mom and pop grocery store in Marshfield, Wisconsin. On Monday, a man wearing a mask walked into her store.

He demanded cash.

"He said, 'Walk in the back of the store!'" Wolf recalls.

But the 96-year-old woman stood her ground and refused to give him the money.

"I said, 'I'm not walking no place. I'm standing right here," she says.

That's when the would-be-robber took out a knife and placed it on the counter. But even that didn't scare the owner!

"I said, 'I'm not opening up that cash register and that's it. I'm not opening it!' I said, 'You can have all the tootsie rolls you want, but I am not opening that cash register.'"

Eventually, the masked man noticed a security camera, and ran away with nothing!

"I said, I'll press a button and I'll have somebody here in seconds," she describes.

Marshfield Police Department Lieutenant Darren Larsen is impressed with what Wolf did, but he also warns against challenging muggers.

"In this instance[,] while not recommended with what took place, we're just very very happy Marge was not injured," reflects Larson.

As for the would-be-robber, he's still on the run.

"What do I say to him? I say I think you got some punishments coming, and it will be a little bit more than scrubbing the floor," Wolf says to the would-be-robber.
