A day on the lake turns into a rescue for one kayaker, after crews pulled him from the water Wednesday.
Officials say the kayaker was headed from Burnham Harbor to one of the city's drinking water in-take towers when his kayak started taking on water. That's when the man radioed in asking for help.
Rescue crews say the radio and the kayaker's life vest is probably what saved his life.
The kayaker was not hurt.
Crews say this rescue is reminder for all people to wear a life vest when out on the water and if possible to bring a two-way radio in case of an emergency.
A 13-year-old boy was killed and at least 22 others -- including a 3-year-old boy -- have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.
