What gets rid of mosquitoes?

Experts say get ready, this mosquito season is going to be a bad one. Thanks to a particularly rainy summer, the creatures are expected to be flying in droves throughout Georgia.

Entomologist Dr. Rosmarie Kelly says do what you can to control the mosquitos in your yard, but don't count on the citronella candles.
 
"You can sit in citronella candle smoke and it smells really nice, but you can sit in the smoke of a regular candle and it will do about the same thing," Kelly said.
 
Garlic spray might be enough to keep the neighbor kids and cats away, but not pesky mosquitoes, Kelly said.

Bat houses won't do the trick either.

"Bats are wonderful. They eat a lot of agricultural pests, but they're not a great control for mosquitoes, Kelly said.

According to some reviews, some folks say phone apps that emit low frequency sonic waves can repel the annoying insects. Kelly said that's hogwash.

"The app doesn't work," Kelly said.

So what does work? Kelly says products like Mosquito Dunk that go in birdbaths and water barrels.  Also, repellants that go directly on your clothing and skin can help keep the ‘skeeters away.

Kelly also says mosquito control spraying also does a good job.
