Study Correlates Having Sisters With Male Republican Identification

Posted: Updated:

According to a recent study, men who grew up with female siblings tend to be more conservative in their views of gender and were more likely to identify as Republicans at a young age.

This study, done by Loyola Marymount University and Stanford Graduate School of Business pinpoints housework as the mediator.

According to researchers, men who grew up with sisters are less likely to share housework and probably watched their sisters do chores. This teaches them that chores and housework are women's work, researchers posit.

According to the study authors, boys with only sisters were 13.5 percent more conservative in their views of women's roles than boys with all brothers.

Also, when the boys with female siblings were seniors in high school, they were nearly 15 percent more likely to identify as Republicans.
