CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

For nearly four days, host of NPR's weekend edition Saturday, Scott Simon, has been live tweeting from the bedside of his ailing mother.

His tweets have been moving, heartbreaking, and sometimes humorous as he reported on his final moments with his mother, Patricia Lyons Simon Newman Gilband.

"I am getting a life's lesson about grace from my mother in the ICU. We never stop learning from our mothers, do we?" Simon said on July 25.

The next day, a lighthearted message came from his account: "My mother & I just sang Que Sera Sera 3 times. God bless you Doris Day for giving us such a great theme song."

On July 29, a poignant tweet: "Mother cries Help Me at 2;30. Been holding her like a baby since. She's asleep now. All I can do is hold on to her."

Finally, on Monday evening, Simon tweeted the seemingly foreseeable to his nearly 1.3 million followers: "The heavens over Chicago have opened and Patricia Lyons Simon Newman has stepped onstage."
