Narberth Break-Ins Have Neighbors On Edge

NARBERTH, Pa. -

Residents say the neighborhoods of Narberth are usually quiet, peaceful and family-friendly. But numerous break-ins have shattered a peace of mind many have had for decades. And it has the whole town talking.

"It shocked me a lot because you never hear of anything happening," says a neighbor.

"When something like this happens in a small intimate town…it becomes like wildfire, everyone talks about it," says Brendan Scanlon, another neighbor.

Investigators say a Havertown man turned himself in Tuesday, after a burglary on Hampden Street. But he says more suspects are responsible for nearly 10 break-ins this month.

Police believe they are getting in through unlocked windows in the day time. Cash and jewelry have been the prime targets in heists on the 300 block of Woodside, Chestnut and Maple, for example.

"It was immediately concerning because that kind of thing doesn't normally happen in this town," says Brendan Scanlon.

Brendan Scanlon says he lives near many of the victims and says his family is taking preventative action.

"My family has been locking doors, (having) lights on and making sure we have dogs," says Scanlon.

Cops say they've only solved three of the crimes so far and have boosted their patrols. Residents say they too are pulling together.

"Everybody looks out for one another so hopefully these guys will be caught," says a neighbor.

Police have one suspect in custody but they are looking for others. If you have any information about these crimes you are urged to call Narberth Police at (610) 664-8160.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
