Man accused of stabbing parents speaks out in jailhouse interview

Posted: Updated:

Behind bars for stabbing his parents in their Mesa home – he went on camera to talk to FOX 10 News.

Over the weekend, 22-year-old Zachary Schneider was arrested after a bloody attack on his parents. He allegedly stabbed his mother in the neck and father in the ear and shoulder. They are both recovering from their wounds.

In an interview at Towers Jail, Schneider says he doesn't remember a thing.

"They told me yesterday what happened, right after that I talked to officers, and got to a psychologist to get my head checked out. They told me what happened. I couldn't really believe it you know?" Schneider said.

Zachary Schneider says he does remember arguing with his parents inside the home.

"Well they don't agree with me using medical marijuana and that is how the argument started, they just refuse to accept science."

"At first we were just talking normally and it escalated into verbal abuse and provocations and my mom assaulted me and I said 'don't touch me' and she did it again."

Schneider says he suffers from major depressive disorder but doesn't take medication for it because he doesn't like the side effects. He says he's sorry for stabbing his parents.

He was living with his parents at the time of the attack -- not going to school, not working.

He says he carried a knife to protect himself and thinks that's what he may have used to stab his parents.
