Fans react to the pending A-Rod suspension

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A-Rod’s jersey used to be the hot commodity in the Yankee Clubhouse store, but lately, not so much.

Fox 5 spoke to some fans about A-Rod’s possible suspension and we got a variety of reactions, but the one reaction from everyone is they are not surprised.

With his two-run home run at a minor league game in Trenton Friday night, A-Rod proves he can still play -- but will he ever play again in the majors?

Multiple reports say the Yankee third baseman will be suspended on Monday for the rest of this season and all of next over performance enhancing drugs.

Fox 5 asked fans at the Yankee store on Fifth Avenue if they thought the would-be punishment was fitting.

“Lifetime ban? Yeah, everybody else got it. He’s doing steroids -- it's wrong, it's bad for the kids,” said one fan.

“I think he should probably get a least a suspension. I don't know about for life, I mean they banned Pete Rose for gambling,” added another fan.

At Friday night’s news conference, A-Rod made it clear that he's going down swinging. Reports say because of A-Rod’s remarks, a deal is now off the table.

A-Rod all but accused the league and the Yankees of conspiring against him to void the remainder of his nearly $100 million contract.

One fan agrees.

“I think steroids has been used by many major league players. The fact that they’re singling A-Rod who’s been in the league for so long – is a little harsh on him.”

If the suspension happens, Rodriguez won't be eligible to play again until he's 39. Major League Baseball could pursue a lifetime ban as well.

Even non-Yankee fans said if Alex Rodriguez is indeed suspended, this will be a sad and disappointing day for all of baseball.
