Florida Hospital's Dr. Butch Rosser has an unusual pre-surgery routine. The night before a procedure he watches what he calls "the game film" of his last surgery.
He grades his performance and learns from it just as he did when he was an offensive lineman for the University of Florida in the 1970s. But he also does something you might find strange.
The day of surgery he goes to a dark corner of the doctor's lounge at Florida Hospital Celebration Health, and plays video games! Rosser built the video game room specifically for laparoscopic surgeons to warm up before they go in the operating room.
Rosser authored a groundbreaking 2007 study that proves surgeons who game, improve their skills.
FOX 35's Tom Johnson talked with him to see why it works.
