NYU announces changes to ease tensions

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - New York University has announced changes designed to reduce tensions between NYU's leaders and its professors.

Among the changes, NYU no longer will lend money to top employees to buy vacation homes. It also will allow faculty members more say in school decisions.

The New York Times reports NYU also announced Wednesday that its president, John Sexton, will step down in 2016 when his term ends.

He's been the subject of 5 no-confidence votes by faculty this year.

The changes came out of a series of meetings trustees held with faculty, staff, administrators and students.

A resolution being adopted by the full board of trustees says all subsequent loans will "be used only for primary residences." The board had insisted they were a valuable tool for retaining top talent.
