NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Two Brooklyn suspects arrested in the shooting of a Long Island police officer who was investigating a burglary report remain behind bars.
Cong Xu and Renhang Qui were arraigned Thursday on charges of burglary, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. The 21-year-old Xu was also charged with attempted murder. They're due back in court on Monday.
Officer Mohit Arora was shot in the right hip as he approached a house in New Hyde Park early Wednesday. He underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.
Residents of the house had called 911 to report hearing strange noises.
After the officer was shot, police canvassed the area and took two men into custody.
No information on attorneys for the men was available.
