Port Orange residents happy vacant that home is cleared of bees

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

On Monday morning, Port Orange city code enforcement and a bee removal expert went into a vacant home on Lafayette Street to take care of a huge bee problem.   What they found was that all the bees were gone, and a huge hive that was outside of the home had been removed.

Jason Deeringer, a bee removal expert with Insect IQ, says he was surprised to see that not one of the estimated 90,000 bees was alive.  He thinks someone came in and sprayed in the past week or so.

Neighbors we talked to said they saw someone spray the home last week.

Deeringer removed the honeycomb and "bee-proofed" the home.  He cut a piece of ceiling out and removed a 100-pound colony.

One neighbor said she and her family haven't been able to use their backyard swimming pool all summer long, out of fear of the bees.
