NEW YORK (AP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is refusing to address a report that he tried to get Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to run to succeed him.
The New Yorker magazine reported Monday that Bloomberg secretly paid for a June poll he hoped would convince Kelly he could win this November.
Bloomberg on Monday said he didn't know the origin of the report. Kelly is not a mayoral candidate.
But the poll appears to be the latest sign of Bloomberg's unhappiness with the field of candidates fighting to replace him.
He has not endorsed anyone, including his frequent ally, City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.
Late last year, he tried to persuade former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to run for mayor. She declined.
