Umenyiora changes numbers at parents' request

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - Anyone who bought an Osi Umenyiora No. 90 jersey after he signed with the Atlanta Falcons is going to be in for a surprise.

He's now wearing No. 50.

Umenyiora took the practice field Wednesday wearing his new number after working out a swap with young linebacker Pat Schiller.

Umenyiora says he made the switch because his parents didn't like the look of the higher number, so he sought out something in the 50s.

His first choice was 58, but that number was unofficially retired by the team after being worn by longtime Falcons linebacker Jessie Tuggle. The next choice was 57, but Umenyiora ran into the same issue - that number was once worn by Falcons great Jeff Van Note and is no longer given out by the Falcons.
