Nekter: A Healthy Way To Start Your Day

Posted: Updated:

Steve and Alexis Schulze the husband and wife owners of Nekter, joined Maria and Mason in studio today to get the morning off to a healthy start and to show us how easy it is with two drinks they created for Good Day LA.

Established in 2010 in Newport Beach,  Nékter pioneered the vegan juice bar concept that has quickly caught on in the health and wellness revolution with a selection of all natural, raw, and vegan cold-pressed juices, and smoothies. Nekter has continued to grow their business offering acai bowls, and a 100% organic premium cleanse program. Brand new to the line, is their Nékter 'On The Rocks'™ Skinny Cocktail Mixers.

Nékter will continue to expand its menu and store locations throughout the country, with new stores opening in Texas and Arizona this year, and 70 additional locations scheduled to open in 2014 and 2015.

To learn more about Nékter, visit the nekterjuicebar.com or connect on Facebook,  Twitter and Instagram.

The Nékter Orange Crush
Combine Frozen strawberries, orange juice and agave
Grab a handful of fresh raw spinach
Garnish with a fun straw and orange wheel

**QUICK TIP**:  Here's the secret: as long as you use a lot of strawberries, you can sneak some spinach in there and it doesn't change the color - the kids never know it's in there. We make these at nékter -- just use code word "sneaky spinach."  Add in some yogurt for protein and you'll have energy all morning.

Here are five common problems we all encounter, and some solutions from Nekter to help tackle them - with extra health benefits!

1. No energy?
Get a little apple boost.  Better yet, juice apples with greens! Apples juiced give an instant kick, while the greens provide a longer lasting energy.
A great way to give the body a lift without the "caffeine crash" afterwards: nekter's "green energy" delivers a delicious combination of apples, greens and cranberries to wake up mind and body.

2. Can't concentrate?
Try juiced sweet potatoes with a small amount of ginger and apple. You'll feel a zen-like level of concentration and a delicious calm!

3. Feeling too full of junk food?
Flush out the body! Grapefruit is loaded with soluble fiber and will give a little liver cleanse as well.  (Add greens to boost the nutrients since those junk foods don't have much to offer.) You'll feel clean and refreshed in no time!

4. Dull skin and hair?
Greens, greens and more greens! Any leafy greens like spinach, kale or collard greens will help the hair, skin and even nails grow. Loaded with live enzymes and an abundance of nutrients, green veggies will make you glow from the inside out.  Add cucumber for potassium, silica and hydration and carrots for instant radiance!

5. Need a little immunity boost?

Two words: Ginger and Kale.

All Hail to the Kale! A single-cup serving of kale has almost as much vitamin C as an orange - and as much calcium as a cup of milk!  Kale contains fiber and antioxidants, and is one of the best sources of vitamin A, which promotes eye and skin health and helps strengthen your immune system.

Ginger to the rescue! 2 oz. ginger shots - a quick drink made with juiced lemon, ginger and a dash or two of cayenne pepper. Boosts immune system, reduces inflammation and clears sinuses. You can also make a tea with lemon juice, grated ginger and a little honey with hot water.
