Body of Arizona man recovered from Colorado River

Posted: Updated:

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - The body of a Mohave Valley man who jumped into the Colorado River while being chased by tribal police has been found on the California side of the river.

Mohave County Sheriff's officials said Friday that the body of 44-year-old Robert Gene Cooper Jr. was located near Moabi Regional Park in Needles.

They say Cooper jumped into the river Monday evening as he ran from a Fort Mohave tribal police officer.

It wasn't immediately clear why Cooper was being chased by authorities.

Sheriff's deputies searched the river and shorelines for two days without finding Cooper.

They say the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office in California will conduct the investigation into Cooper's death.
