Veteran says he's waiting for apology in flag flap

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County veteran says he's still waiting for an apology after housing management removed his American flag display.

Last week, 76-year-old Armond Noah, a Korean War veteran, told FOX 5 that several American flags that he had displayed outside his residence were removed without notice.

"The way these people came over here and took these flags and just took them down like I'm nothing, I mean, this is an American flag," Noah said.

The flags were removed by a housing management company working for the DeKalb County Housing Authority.

"I mean, the protocol would have been, professionally, for them to call me and say, 'We have a problem with the flags,'" said Noah.

Paula Grant, a spokesperson for the DeKalb County Housing Authority, said that the problem was that Noah placed the flags in a common area.

"We do not in any way have any problem with the U.S. flag," said Grant. "We are patriots and proud of our flag. I want to thank Mr. Noah for bringing this issue to our attention. "

Grant acknowledged that it was a mistake to snatch them up without first informing Noah.  She showed FOX 5's Morse Diggs an apology letter dated August 22, but said they hadn't been able to contact Mr. Noah in person yet.

After hearing similar complaints from other veterans who live in the complex, Grant said that a mass meeting will be held on the issue.

Grant said she will take Noah's recommendation and hang a flag up at the property.
