Woman Struck, Killed By Train At SEPTA's Allegheny Station

Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

SEPTA service was stopped in its tracks Saturday at the Kensington and Allegheny station in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. That's where a train hit and killed a woman.

Right now police say it looks like it was a horrible accident, FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported live Saturday night from the scene.

The elevated line trains were running again by Saturday night, but it was a different story earlier, when police had much of the area locked down. They say a 35-year-old woman somehow fell on to the tracks just as a train was coming in.

Investigators examined the elevated SEPTA platform at the station where the woman died after falling into the path of the eastbound train.

Witnesses said stunned passengers came down shocked by what happened, saying a lady fell onto the El's tracks.

SEPTA officials started as a rescue operation until it became clear the woman did not survive. Officers blocked off the entrance while affected passengers were shuttled by bus along the Market-Frankford line until crews cleared the scene.

We're learning from investigators that witnesses say the woman appeared to be disoriented in some way before falling on to the track. We've learned that a toxicology test is being done as part of this investigation.
