Hassan Twiet fled Syria as a 17-year old and since that has become a respected High School teacher with a Masters in Computer Science, a wife, four children, and a certificate of US Citizenship. Yet in many ways his heart is in Syria, along with his surviving relatives.
The brutal regime there, has, since 1982 literally wiped out about 30 of his extended family, and when we spoke with him live on Studio 11 LA at 5 o clock he was pleading with President Obama to take military action to try to deter Syrian "President" Assad from killing even more of his own.
Twiet is also President of the local branch of the Syrian American Council, which tries to promote understanding of the plight of Syrians , who have scattered to all corners of the world…. About 100, 000 call Southern California home. Living in Syria, he says , is like living under control of the Devil. He considers himself one of the lucky ones, he got out and made a life for himself, others did not , and never will.
