SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
The little boy who went missing Tuesday is back in central Florida tonight and reunited with his dad. Police said his mother pulled him out of school, and they hit the road, driving all the way to North Carolina without telling his father.
Howard Darden said he couldn't rest until he had his son in his arms.
"It was a dream, it was the worst dream I've ever had, because you just couldn't wake up from it," Darden told Fox 35.
He's barely slept since Tuesday morning, when Seminole County Sheriff's Deputies said his estranged wife cut off the ankle monitor she was court ordered to wear for stalking him, and disappeared with their son. On Thursday his son was spotted in Elizabeth City, North Carolina with his mother, Angela Darden.
"A huge weight lifted off my shoulders," Darden said "knowing he was safe."
Now, back home, 11-year-old Howie said he thought the experience was "kind of crazy."
Angela Darden is in jail in North Carolina, and will face charges in Seminole County for allegedly cutting that ankle monitor. A court temporarily granted Howard full custody of the boys in mid-August.
