Delta flight with mechanical problems diverted to Canada

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Hundreds of weary passengers are back in Atlanta Tuesday morning after mechanical problems caused their Delta Air Lines flight to be diverted.

"It was a long flight."

There's really no other way to describe what these passengers endured for the last 12 hours. Delta Flight 81 started off with a two-hour delay in Brussels. The trip didn't get much better from there.

Passengers were informed of the Boeing 767 having mechanical issues. Then, the flight was diverted to land in Canada.

A passenger said, "We had to stay in the plane for some time because there was no Customs present, and then they told us that the new plane was coming, and that we should leave in two hours. It didn't leave in two hours. It took some time longer."

The mechanical problem couldn't be fixed there. They had to send a replacement plane. The plane didn't leave until four hours later, but arrived safely in Atlanta about 3 a.m. Tuesday – with an aircraft full of very weary, but very grateful passengers.

One Flight 81 passenger said, "It took a long time, but in the end all was fine. So, I think they did a great job to get us back."

Another passenger said, "It happens. That's just life in travelling. You have mechanicals. You have weather delays and, you know, you just try to make the best of it."

Two hundred passengers, eight attendants and two pilots all landed safely at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
