Body which fits description of missing diver found
PONCE INLET, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A body which fits the description of a missing man has been located. However, officials with the U.S. Coast Guard will not confirm if it is that of a Maitland man who disappeared while diving about 24 miles east of Ponce De Leon Inlet on Monday morning.
Officials said Ryan Myers, 28, went into the water with about 30 minutes of oxygen. When he didn't resurface within the half-hour, the crew of the fishing vessel Yellowfin reported him missing.
A Coast Guard crew that was training nearby began looking for Myers. The search was extended to include a kayaker when the crew spotted an overturned kayak on their way to the search site.
The search for the kayaker was called off Monday night, but crews continued their search for Myers on Tuesday morning. Officials say there is no report of an overdue kayaker.
The body which was recovered Tuesday afternoon was discovered by a group of private citizen divers. Officials are presently awaiting the arrival of the Medical Examiner.
A Coast Guard cutter and a helicopter have since returned from the search site where Myers was believed to have disappeared.
This is a developing story. We will have a live report during FOX 35 News at 5 p.m. and continue to post updates here on MyFoxOrlando.com.
