Body In River Identified As Missing Man From NE Philly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Could evidence hauled away from a Philadelphia home help investigators solve a deadly mystery?

A search Wednesday night may have something to do with a body that turned up Tuesday. Sources tell FOX 29 that the gruesome discovery led police from the Schuylkill River to Center City.

SkyFOX was over the scene for a short time after the initial discovery around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The body was found Tuesday in the area of Schuylkill Avenue and Reed Street by a man who was fishing in a boat. The torso was found first in the bag that was floating on the river, and police believe it was thrown in there from the Schuylkill Expressway.

Sources say that body is connected to a second-story apartment in Center City.

FOX 29's Omari Fleming talked to a family member of the man pictured on a flier. She says the 40-year-old man's name is Frank Zarzycki and he's been missing since Monday night. He was last seen at 11th and Locust streets.

Family members passed out fliers around the apartment on the 200 block of 11th Street. It's the same place that investigators spent part of the day and night looking for clues.

We're told the torso that was found in the river had on it the two identifying tattoos that the family had listed on its reward poster, one being a bull and the other a black and green design.

On Wednesday, investigators pulled out boxes and bags, full of evidence.

Residents say that two people, a young man and woman, rent the apartment that police searched.

Sources say that the couple had only lived in the building for a few months.

The couple was not at the second story apartment building Wednesday night. As far as the person on the flier, police have not confirmed whether or not it was the same person who was found in the Schuylkill River.

Sources tell FOX 29 that Zarzycki may have been with a couple at their Center City apartment.

The couple were taken in for questioning, police said. No charges have been filed.

On Thursday morning, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said, "As of last night, we did have a couple of people we were speaking with that we think have useful information to help us out with this crime. It is a very disturbing crime, obviously, but one that I'm confident that we'll solve."
