Girl falls off balcony at Animal Kingdom resort villa
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A 6-year-old girl vacationing in central Florida with her family fell from a balcony at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas on Labor Day.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office reports that the girl, whose name wasn't released, fell Monday evening from her family's room at the "Jambo House" area of the resort villas.
The girl's father told a security officer he was taking a shower when he heard his wife scream. The father said he ran down the stairwell and jumped over a wall to get to his daughter. The girl was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where she was believed to be in stable condition.
"Our primary concern is for the child's health and recovery, and a Disney representative is with the family providing support," read a statement sent to FOX 35 by Disney spokesperson Kathleen Prihoda.
The Animal Kingdom Villas surround a preserve filled with free-roaming animals and birds, but park officials told authorities that animals don't have access to the area where the girl fell.
Detectives believe the fall was accidental, but it remains under investigation.
